Course Type: A-Level

A-Level biology aims to prepare students with relevant, real world experiences that are interesting to learn.

We believe that Biology is fundamentally a practical subject and offer 12 required practical activities to assess skills, knowledge and understanding.

In year 12, topics 1-4 are covered and include;

1. Biological molecules

  1. Cells

  2. Organisms exchange substances with their environment

  3. Genetic information, variation and relationships between organisms

In year 13, topics 5-8 are covered and include;

5.     Energy transfer in and between organisms

6.     Organisms respond to changes in their environment

7.     Genetics, populations, evolution and ecosystems

8.     The control of gene expression

The Assessment

The A level course consists of three separate papers with practical skills assessed throughout.

  • Paper 1: Any content from topics 1–4, including relevant practical skills (91 marks)
  • Paper 2: Any content from topics 5–8, including relevant practical skills 91 marks
  • Paper 3: Any content from topics 1–8, including relevant practical skills 78 marks

A-level Biology is a stepping stone to future study and employability.

Course Requirements

  • 5 and above in English.
  • 5 and above in Maths.
  • 6 and above in science.
