Biology
Course Type: A-Level
A-Level biology aims to prepare students with relevant, real world experiences that are interesting to learn.
We believe that Biology is fundamentally a practical subject and offer 12 required practical activities to assess skills, knowledge and understanding.
In year 12, topics 1-4 are covered and include;
1. Biological molecules

Cells

Organisms exchange substances with their environment

Genetic information, variation and relationships between organisms
In year 13, topics 5-8 are covered and include;
5. Energy transfer in and between organisms
6. Organisms respond to changes in their environment
7. Genetics, populations, evolution and ecosystems
8. The control of gene expression
The Assessment
The A level course consists of three separate papers with practical skills assessed throughout.
- Paper 1: Any content from topics 1–4, including relevant practical skills (91 marks)
- Paper 2: Any content from topics 5–8, including relevant practical skills 91 marks
- Paper 3: Any content from topics 1–8, including relevant practical skills 78 marks

A-level Biology is a stepping stone to future study and employability.

- 5 and above in English.
- 5 and above in Maths.
- 6 and above in science.
